Wednesday is "Ash" Day

According to our dear friend, Wikipedia, Ash Wednesday can be summed up as the following.

In the Western Christian Calendar, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days (forty days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It falls on a different date each year, because it is dependent on the date of Easter; it can occur as early as February 4 or as late as March 10.
Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year's Palm Sunday
are burned. In the liturgical practice of some churches, the ashes are mixed with the Oil of the Catechumens [1] (one of the sacred oils used to anoint those about to be baptized), though some churches use ordinary oil. This paste is used by the priest who presides at the service to make the sign of the cross first upon his own forehead and then on each of those present who kneel before him at the altar rail. As he does so, he recites the words: "Remember (O man) that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

I am not Catholic. However, I think that this is a good tradition to keep. My youth minister used to remind me that I was Baptist and that I didn't practice/believe in it. But my theory is that for these 40 days I can give something up for Christ's sacrifice for me. I realize that I can do it at any time, but my thought is to do so with other people. We all need a little support and strength is in numbers.

This year I'll be giving up...wouldn't you like to know?

the Movies

When I get off work, the first thing I do is watch ABC's The View. Today in the hot topics section they talked about how Hollywood seems to be playing up the glamour and glitz of Hollywood last night at the Oscars. They also talked about how Hollywood seemed to want to ignore the fact that there is a recession. And then Joy Behar brought up the fact that they did that during the Great Depression.

The actors/actresses thought if they made a brilliant, fabulous or stellar film that people would forget about their problems.

Well they did just that during the Depression. The movies did that for people. Their problems disappeared while they watched Scarlett fight for Tara and Rhett.

And they did that tonight for me too.

Going to the movies has been my chance to escape for as long as I can remember. For two hours or more I have nothing else to think about but what is on the screen in front of me. Often times I see the movie that I need to see too. I take something from everything I see whether it is High School Musical 3 or Titanic.

I saw Confessions of a Shopaholic tonight and it was just what I needed...green scarf and all.

...................................................................................................................................................................
I LOVE THE OSCARS!

Seriously, when I was a little kid I can remember staying up with my dad to watch the Oscars. I didn't get to do that unless it was a really special occasion. The only other reason I got to stay up during the school year on a Sunday night in my grade school years was due to my pappaw passing away. Yes it is a serious commitment.

No matter what my Sunday night plans are I do not miss the Oscars. I skipped chapter in college for this.

So I'll be blogging tonight during them. I have already twittered a few of my thoughts.

Good evening and Happy Oscars everyone.

Wednesday is "Medical Bureaucracy" Day

I'd like to take this time to inform you of what the ever liberal Michael Moore has already stated.

Insurance companies in this country stink to high heavens.

As you are aware, a week ago, we had a scare with Brandon. We did not have the ct-scan/MRI requested completed because his symptoms went away. The PA felt that because his symptoms had cleared and because he wasn't experiencing a migraine that it was unneccessary for the CT-Scan/MRI to be completed.

Now to me and to every other person with a brain--pun intended--it would seem that if the Urgent Care felt it necessary to have an MRI/CT-Scan completed, then the ER physicians would follow the recommendation. They obviously felt it was imperative because they didn't want want to treat him so they could see what his brain activity looked like without medication being administered.

Apparently that was not the case.

And the PA isn't the only one to blame...it has to do with insurance policy.

I would like to pause for a moment to talk about the fact that this is my number one beef with the American government today.

Because Brandon's symptoms went away, our insurance no longer sees the need for the MRI/CT-Scan to be completed.

But in order for him to be accepted to the neurologist's office, an MRI has to be done.

So I had to call our PCP today and explain the situation to them and they said they would speak with the doctor and get back to me.

It probably won't be a big issue for the MRI to be completed. But what would have happened if something happened to him that same night we got sent home because "his symptoms went away"???

It isn't as if they are scanning a muscle/bone for a tear/brake. It is his brain!!! Outside of the heart, this is the most critical muscle in the body.

It is without a doubt one of the most ridiculous things I have ever experienced. There has got to be some form of regulation on this matter that comes into place.

I know it isn't as educational as it should be, but I figure it works. Plus at least now, you know one more reason why I didn't vote for John McCain.

Tacky Tuesday

I have said it before and I will say it again. I hate the fact that Toby Keith is our so-called celebrity for OU football.

I am dead serious about this.

Texas has Matthew McConaughey.
USC has Matt Lachey.

Both schools I absolutely hate btw. They are right up there with Chase Daniels as far as the whole DIF theory is concerned. But you cannot deny that they have smokin' guns in the looks and class department...minus that whole Lachey is crazy for leaving Jess factor.

And Oklahoma has Toby Keith.

Seriously, the man got into a fist fight with a guy at his concert because of a beer spill.
He has a mullet haircut.

He brings a whole new level to tacky.

At a loss for words

I have serious writer's block and need some major prayer. I need to put out one heck of a personal statement tomorrow. I don't know what I should say and am not sure I can put it as eloquently as I need to do so.
........................................................................................................................................................................

And my brother and sister are learning some adult lessons this week. It's really weird to me to see them becoming little adults. But they are definitely going to be good big adults one of these days. I am so proud of them.

........................................................................................................................................................................

I am supposed to be part of a speaking engagement soon. I am more than excited. I can't even tell you how excited I am. BUT IT IS A HUGE SECRET!! So for now that is all that you get.

Big Girls Don't Cry

Big girls don’t cry
Big girls don’t cry
Big girls don’t cry-yi-yi (they don’t cry)
Big girls don’t cry (who said they don’t cry?)
My girl said goodbye-yi-yi (my oh my)
My girl didn’t cry (I wonder why)

Big Girls Don't Cry- Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

Tuesday afternoon, I got my first big girl wife test. Brandon sent me a message in the mid afternoon telling me that he thought he was about to have a migraine as his onset indicator of blurry vision was occuring. He had one of his coworkers drive him to the urgent care and because I work in another town my mom was going to meet him there. I assumed that by the time I got home that night I would have a husband dead asleep in our bed.

Yeah well I don't have to tell you what happens when you assume things.

On my way home after work, Brandon calls and says, "While I was waiting for the doctor, my left side went numb. They want me to go to the Emergency Room for a ct-scan, and I need a neuro-consult."

What I heard was: ER. CT-Scan. Neurologist.

I made it off the phone without crying. Then I let it sink in and approximately 2.3 seconds later I was bawling. This was also in the middle of the thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Yeah. I can tell you're really paying attention now. Because you just realized that I was driving in rain, which I HATE, and crying at the same time. Not a good combination.

I was crossing the Arkansas bridge when I saw a rainbow. The rain had subsided for just a moment and there was God's promise to me that everything was going to be okay. Now I don't believe that rainbow just appeared and the torrential rains stopped just for the heck of things.

God was in control.

I dried my tears, called Brandon back and then started calling his family. I would like to say that I was brave and didn't cry again, but that wasn't the case. I cried on his mom and I told her I was sorry, but that I was scared because this is the first time that something like this had happened. I realized that I wasn't the little girl anymore.

When something happens to Brandon, decisions and phone calls come to me directly.

I talked to my sister, Jessica. She has no idea how well she handled the situation. I called and started telling her everything and she told me she knew and then started talking about her crappy day to take my mind off things. She has what President Kennedy would have called "courage under fire." She had the ability to assess the situation, recognize my weaknesses in my personality and take charge of the situation. She was braver than she ever gives herself credit for.

Then my dad called. Of course I immediately started crying before my dad could even ask how I was doing. That's typical. And we had our little father/daughter pep talk. My dad reminded me that "They can't eat ya sister. Everything will be okay." and I clicked back over to talk to my sister. She and I ended our conversation and I gave her my pep talk to take her Valentine to S.O.S. before the weekend.

I sent messages to those I know in the medical field about recommendations for neurologists and pulled into the hospital parking lot still expecting the worst. I walked in the door expecting to see Brandon in a wheel chair due to his numbness.

He was in a regular chair, looking around like nothing was going on majorly in his life at that moment.

I didn't know whether to hit or hug him.

He was like "what's wrong with you? You look like you have been crying."

Seriously!?! I had my decision on the hug/hit issue at that point.

I said, "Brandon when you call people and tell them what is going on you have to be very specific. For example when you call your wife to tell her that you're on your way to the ER b/c your LEFT SIDE is numb, be aware that it might cause some commotion."

Brandon said, "I thought I told you left arm."

"Uh...NO! You told me left side. Now you're still drowzy and it makes total sense to me why you shouldn't have made that phone call. In the future, I want someone to call who knows exactly what they are saying."

"Okay...well I am okay. That's good news. You don't have anything to worry about."

"In the future, hand the phone to my mom or my doctor."

"Okay. Geez."

Eventually we went to the back. We met with the nurse. She was extremely nice and her bedside manner was superb.

The same could not be said for the P.A. She was new to the case b/c there had just been a shift case. We did not see an actual doctor at any point because there was another trauma going on and never had a ct-scan or bloodwork. We were told that they wanted to wait b/c the neurologist's typically want to run their own.

We are waiting to hear from a couple of neurologists to see if they will take our case on...funny thing medical bureaucracy. The first thing they wanted besides his medical records was a copy of the ct-scan!! I could have screamed.

The good news is that Brandon never had a migraine. Yay!

Lessons learned from the situation...

  1. I watch waaaaaaay too much tv because so many bad bad things ran through my mind on the way to see Brandon. (And they still do)
  2. We have to be more aggressive when we visit the emergency room.
  3. I really have to do everything humanly possible to hold on to God's reminders that he is in control. Otherwise, I'll worry about something that hasn't happened yet and may not even happen.
  4. The Lifetime Channel is now the Bravo Channel.

Wednesday is "the Luxe" Day

I am currently reading another young adult series by Anna Godberson. They are known as the Luxe books and a good preview can be found here.
I do apologize for the lack of posting lately. The blame can be placed on this series. When I read a book and get totally hooked, I disappear for days at a time b/c all I can think about is reading.

I have a serious one track mind only.

My husband doesn't really appreciate it because he gets put on the backburner too.

He'll live.

these are a few of my favorite things: multiples

If you have ever heard me discuss my brother and sister, I usually mention a term called "the freaky twin thing." They have this ability to know when the other is hurt/upset/something exciting etc is going on. For example, one time my my brother busted his cheek open. Loren wasn't in the same room, but came out to the front of our house crying because she was upset about brother being hurt. We asked how she knew she just said, "I just know." It is the weirdest and creepiest thing and they still do it to this day.

Another thing to note about twins/multiples is that each person has their role. For example, Loren is the dominant twin and Will is the laidback twin. An example of this is when they were younger Loren would boss Will around and tell him what games they were going to play and he went along with it willingly. Now they are older things and attitudes have changed. Of course that is evident with any tweeny bopper in the house.

This weekend is to be filled with cheer (literally) while we watch Loren and her team in OKC. Her twin will be with us...grumbling all the way.

Classic 25

  1. I am somewhat of a decent singer. I sang for numerous competitions when I was younger and won different awards. (There are several embarrassing photos to prove it.) But due to lack of lessons and discouragement from mentors/others, I no longer sing in public. If I do it is with a choir most of the time. I don’t sing b/c I am nervous about singing, I am just not asked to do so.
  2. The previous statement sounds whiney I am sure, but I promise you that I am not whining about anything. The above statement is what it is. I don’t want to come off as a meanie/jerk.
  3. I do not now, nor will I ever like secrets. Some people believe that there can be a good secret, but if someone is left out then it can’t be good. (Engagements are extreme exceptions and the only acceptable ones in my opinion.) In the same breath, I should also say that I hate it when people pry. If you want to know something ask me straight out, but don’t ask me twenty questions after it. If I want you to know something I’ll offer up the information. If I don’t then maybe you should think about why I didn’t offer that information to you. I should also say if I tell you something, it does not give you the permission to shout my business from the roof-tops. I don’t want them to be kept a secret; I just don’t appreciate my thunder being stolen.
  4. My love language is words.
  5. I hate winter after January 1st of any year. When Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve are gone, so is the love for winter from me.
  6. I love to learn about the American government. I think it is one of the most fascinating things.
  7. I have yet to find a friendship that match the ones I made in college.
  8. If I am quiet at my place of work, home or study people want to know if something is wrong. Usually nothing is wrong, I just like to be left alone on occasion.
  9. My sister and I can go shopping on separate days in separate towns and never discuss it with each other and we still buy the same thing.
  10. I like Joy Behar from the View. Make of that what you will.
  11. I do not like Sarah Palin. She and John Ziegler are ridiculous. Make of that what you will.
  12. I am obsessed with celebrity culture but you will never see me with a haircut like someone when thousands of others are doing it. I just refuse to copy hair. Everything else is fair game.
  13. I was a football trainer in high school.
  14. I will give everyone the benefit of the doubt when I first meet people. Once you burn me, civility is all that you will receive from me.
  15. I am a chronic nail biter. This is why I have fake nails on regularly.
  16. My sister and I were born on the tenth of our respective months and the time we were born was 2:52 and 8:32. I am exactly 2 years, eleven months. 5 hours and 4o minutes older than she is.
  17. I am a rockstar in my car. At this point, all of my superiors and coworkers have seen me rock out in my car on the way to/from work. If people outside our office haven't seen me it is some sort of show to see ...or so I've been told.
  18. I have not had pop since January 1st.
  19. I like pre-Yale Rory better. I'm talking about her actual attendance as opposed to her acceptance to Yale. I like that she chose Yale.
  20. My favorite flowers are peonies, mums, glads and poppies.
  21. I have been in only one wedding as far as the bridesmaid role is concerned. It was a beautiful day and wedding.
  22. I love to read.
  23. I am not into PDA. If I kiss Brandon in public I still blush that's how much I am not into it. PDA by other people is gross.
  24. I love American muscle cars.
  25. I will achieve classic status this year.

Wednesday is "the 'BOBB' Section" Day

The Big Bear and I made a trip last weekend to Norman. We went to see my sister and to celebrate my sister in law's birthday. It was a good weekend overall.

Friday night I got to see some fellow Phi Lambs and as well as receiving some mucho needed girl time. I think we stayed up until 2...well I did. They kept talking until like 3. I might have been a bear to wake up so I could get my things out of the car. But that is just a might.

Saturday, we slept until noon and felt like we could have slept longer. It felt a lot like college actually. And in true college fashion we ate lunch late and then went out later that night. We went to the Mont. I am not a Sooner Swirl drinker; I like Mai Tai's. And the Mont makes one of the best. Of course, everyone under the sun was out and about due to a little cabin fever from the ice storm of last week. I can't say I blame them...I mean I was joining the party. Didn't get the Blue Room, but I forgot to call and reserve it. Either way, we had a lot of fun and the ranch burger was amazing as always. I truly believe that the Mont is a must if you're a Sooner.

Sunday, we woke up and ate JR's Barbeque and then headed out for a little lite shopping. We found a new campus store with all kinds of cute Sooner t-shirts and they have one of the best infant/toddler sections for mini Sooners I have ever seen. They had a cute tutu kit for girls, sippy cups, pacifiers, beanies, socks, leather patent shoes with little OU emblems on them, and little booties too. They even had an OU stroller. I will admit I almost bought it, but refrained due to the fear and sheer terror of jinxing myself. After that thought, we left. I found some cute Rocket Dogs at Rack Room shoes for $14 and then headed to Ross....and this is where your education for the day will begin.

Now, I have never been much of a Ross shopper, but we went to see what they had. And I am now a fan of the Ross experience. It has one of the best "BOBB" sections of my lifetime.
Now I am sure at this point, you might be asking yourself, "Self, what exactly is a 'BOBB' section?"

Well wonder no more sweetheart.

BOBB stands for Big Ol' Butt and Boobies.

I know my picture on my blog makes me look very sheek, but it's one of those pictures where I had the right clothes on to conceal my BOBB issue. It's what us Bobb girls do.

Anyway, I found two dresses and a skirt under $35 dollars. One of the dresses happens to be a classic black shift dress that my favorite lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis made famous. So as you might imagine I was more than over the moon about my recent finds and of course my new love for Ross. I mean when a girl gets to look like Jackie, especially this girl, than you can bet I am very pleased.

In fact, I'm wearing that dress today...black flats, pearls, and big black sunglasses included. My hair even has a little poof with the sideways ponytail I've got in today.

I just need a Virginia Slim to complete it. Oh well.

A Confession

As you all are aware, it is February 3rd. December 31st has been gone for some time now as well as January 6th. Both of those dates are respectable dates for taking down Christmas decorations. Some people even say those dates are too long. Well, I am here to tell you that I am a serious rebel.

My Christmas decorations are still up.

There I said it.

Now, I'd like to tell you that I have a legitimate excuse for why I haven't put them up. However at this point, I've got nothin.

It's not because my love for Christmas is that big. My Christmas love is big and you have no reason to doubt that. But it's not the reason.

Nope, I just haven't done it.
It's starting to drive me crazy, but have no drive to take care of the matter. My family has given me a hard time on numerous occasions. But it still sits in my living room in all its glory.

I have been in the middle of applying for law school. However, I think it is because I don't have visitors ever. No one ever comes over. I mean we have a clean house, but no one except for my family comes over. So why bother?

Maybe that is why I put it out there, so I'll feel the pressure to take care of business.

But I doubt it will work.
