Wednesday is "Frito Chili Pie" Day.

Frito Chili Pie: a dish served predominantly in the Southern and Southwestern states of the United States usually composed with a good layer of fritos on the bottom layer, then a layer of chili, and then a layer of cheese (some prefer melted, others shredded), some even go a step further and add mustard and onions;

Note: If you live at my house or my mom's when Brandon is present, there are NO beans in the chili.

I'm not even sure where to start this blog because I am still in such a state of shock. So I'll just tell you why I'm blogging about this in the first place.

Listen up Southerners: people of the North aka Yankees do not know what Frito Chili Pie is!!!

And now that you've picked your jaw up from the floor, I'll tell you how I know this.

About a week or two ago, we were doing our after Sunday church chatting with the couples we hang with at church. It was snowing again and Brandon and I were talking about what sounded good to eat. Brandon mentioned we hadn't had Frito Chili Pie and then it happened....

THEY ASKED US WHAT IT WAS.

Naturally, before I could stop myself, I said "Bless your heart! You don't know what Frito Chili Pie is???"

They of course knew I was flabbergasted by the obvious "Bless your heart" statement. So we told them and then they all said, "oh is that like a walking taco?"

"Ummmm...what???"

Apparently a walking taco is a frito chili pie in the actual bag of fritos. BUT some people put chili and then all taco toppings in it.

It suddenly became crystal clear to me as to why Yankees do not know what good Mexican food is. They put chili with taco toppers and call it a taco! They're confused about what Mexican food is in the first place so how can they even begin to know what it is.

But then I became curious as to whether this was just a Michigander thing. After all, they just got Sonic last summer. It could very well be they're deprived because they don't know about the wonder that is Sonic.

After all, we in the South live and die by Sonic. More specifically, we live and die by our Sonic drinks. I personally think the Sonic ice may be directly correlated with why we're obsessed with ice in the South. As the rest of the world knows, it gets hot in the South in the summer time and an ice cold drink is refreshing, but a drink that's filled with Sonic ice more than fills the spot. Brandon and I kept Sonic ice in our fridge on a regular basis as result of this obsession.

But I digress. We're talking frito chili pie here.

The reason I brought up Sonic is because Sonic makes one of the best Frito Chilli Pies there is. So maybe because they've been deprived of all that is Sonic, it's possible they don't know because of that.

So I started asking around. I go to a school that is heavily populated with people from all over the US.

And y'all!!!!! They didn't know either!!

Some had never been to Sonic too.

Obviously, I now have been living with this serious urge to find the nearest suburban (and several of them) and load them up to the nearest Sonic.

I figure I oughta kill two birds with one stone.

But it doesn't stop there because this curious cat started asking around on twitter.

You poor Yankees don't know what it is either.

It has become more than evident that when you visit me that I'll spend the weekend broadening your horizons.

Hope this finds you well fed.

Happy Wednesday.

Tuesday's Tidbits

  • In three weeks the Real Housewives of New York return. Thank goodness!
  • Saw an episode of Castle last night. It was great.
  • Biggest Loser is shaping up to be a very interesting season.
  • I'm digging Grey's. It's like the olden days.
  • I'd like to tell you about Private Practice but apparently, it won't be back on for another two weeks. The same for Brothers and Sisters.
  • I think Jenelle is more out of control than Amber was on Teen Mom 2.
  • I am excited about the Academy Awards coming up.
  • Glee returns after the Super Bowl.
  • The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are the talk of the town. Jury is still out for me though.
All of this has had everything to do with celeb/tv gossip.

Happy Tuesday.

Getting to know me!

I thought I'd re-introduce myself to those of you who are new.

Read this post and this post for more information.

I gotta get back to studying.

It's snowing here again and I'm reading my casebooks by the fire today.

Happy Monday!

On Boogers and Bathtubs...

I bet your mind is just a racing on where this blog post is gonna go. I can't even believe I'm about to tell you what I'm about to tell you or that I put the word "booger" in the blog title.

But what can I say? I like alliteration.

As you may or may not know I have a French Bulldog named Paisley.

She is our canine child and is very spoiled. She has her dad wrapped around her finger. Her momma on the other hand knows, she's feisty. (I think this is definite foreshadowing of parenting real kids some day. I'm JUST SAYIN.)

Anyway, Paisley while for the most part is a good puppy, happens to have a few bad habits. She likes to eat dirty underwear, dirty socks, dirty kleenex, etc. But when the previous mentioned items are clean, she wants nothing to do with them unless the laundry is freshly dried and then she wants to lay on them to take a nap because that's what dogs do.

As you also may or may not know, I am currently sick with a nasty cold. I am at the point where I am blowing my nose a lot especially in the morning. I have a love/hate relationship with this part of the cold b/c while I know I'm almost to the point of feeling better, it also means that I will lose my voice, have to blow my nose which means watching out for Paisley to make sure she doesn't  try to sneak up to grab my dirty kleenex. It's annoying but I deal.

Well my love/hate relationship with this part of the cold has officially turned to complete hate after my experience in the shower this morning.

Another tidbit of information that you need to know is my dog likes to drink out of the bathtub.

I know this sounds disgusting, but it's not like we don't clean our bathrooms regularly and typically we only let her do this out of the shower that we don't use on a regular basis.

It's kind of funny to watch actually. After her dinner sometimes it seems like she didn't get enough water so we'll turn on the faucet and she jumps into the bathtub and stands there and goes to town.

She also has been known to jump into the bathtub while we're showering if she's thirsty. This usually happens if we put her in the bathroom with us while one of us showers so we don't have to worry about her terrorizing the house because it's been a particularly hectic week and thus our house is a little messier than usual.

This is the part where I tell you that I told you all of this information to tell you this story.

This morning I turned on the shower, shut our bedroom door so Paisley wouldn't wander about the house, and picked up my dirty kleenex from the night before and got into the shower.

I stood there for a bit because the steam helps break up the congestion when I'm sick. Got my hair wet and washed my face. Soon enough I was hacking and coughing up nastiness. I put shampoo in my hair when I see this familiar nose peaking into the shower to see if there is room for her. I block the water and said..."Come on Pais" and she jumped right in.

Okay up to now, this is normally not a big deal.

But then the nasty of all nasties happened.

I was about to tell her to get out when I sneezed and the biggest booger known to man came out of my nose and shot straight on the bathtub floor and before I could stop her, THE DOG ATE THE THING!!!

Yes, I almost hurled seeing it.
Yes, she took one more drink and then jumped out like it was no big thing.
Yes, I almost hurled writing this again.
And Yes, I really just put this on my blog because apparently I have no shame.

What's the moral to this disgusting story? I'm not really sure other than...I guess make sure your dog can't get into the shower with you when you're sick.

Happy Friday!

Show Us Your Life-Show Us Your Singles!

I am very pleased to introduce you to my sister Jessica. We call her Jessi and you should too!!

She's the one on the left in black and is wearing glasses!

I cannot say enough about how great she is.The first thing you should know about her is that she is a believer in the big JC! We are best friends and I am so thankful for our relationship.  Jessi is the second of the four siblings.  I am also very proud to announce that she will be a graduate of the University of Oklahoma as of this May! (Go Sooners!) and she is applying to nursing school!

Jessi is very loyal to her family and friends.  She loves to cook and is amazing at it. Family is a top priority for Jessi as well. She also loves Christmas and it is one of her favorite times of the year (outside of football season of course!)

Oh yeah, she's in her early twenties! Ha! Not sure why I forgot to put that earlier.

Happy Friday y'all and BOOMER SOONER!!!

P.S. This post is a part of Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life Series.

An update...

...because apparently that's what I do on the blog these days. This one is a little random.

  • I got my grades back. I am still in law school. I am happy about that. I'm not going to say much further because I don't feel like my blog is the place.
  • I am feeling better and am on the road back to my peppy self. People IRL are very happy about this.
  • I am determined to get myself back on a regular schedule.
  • Today is the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's inauguration. I happen to be a huge fan of the Kennedy family. So the fact that google's homepage is about him makes it even cooler.
  • Jesse James and Kat Von D are engaged. He wins the Loser Award. Sandra Bullock or Kat Von D? That seems like a no freaking brainer to me.
  • I am finishing up Season 4 of Gilmore Girls. It is a tradition of ours to watch it after Christmas time each year.
  • Salt and vinegar chips are one of the best inventions ever.
  • I have some of the best family and friends ever.

Wednesday is "Project Beat January" Day.

Project Beat January: January is typically a month of seasonal blues. A certain blogger does not have time for it.

It is not a shocker that I'm in a bit of a funk around here. I hate this time of year because we go from celebrating to absolutely nothing with cold weather still looming.

Thankfully, there is still snow here in Michigan to keep things interesting. However, I still got the funk and I'm not talking about being nasty or the song either. (I'm not sure why I felt the need to say that, but I do. Deal.)

Anyway, in case y'all haven't forgotten, I'm still in school and I don't have time for said funk. I have to roll on and still be on my game.

So I have to basically "fake it until I make it."

I know that doesn't sound very positive but positive it will be.

I can't go somewhere warm.

I have the rest of the weekend to be in a funk and on Monday, the good and peppy me will be here.

Happy Wednesday!

Sicker than a dog...

I am sick and therefore have not posted since Thursday.

I decided y'all might want a life update since I'm avoiding reading for school right now I've been so scarce lately.

So here goes...
  1. Went to my first social gathering/event this weekend for school. It was a blast. Spending all day in bed so I could have the energy to go was not, but well worth the sacrifice. Brandon met all of my school friends and was glad to put a face with names.
  2. Got the first of my grades back. More to come, so I'm not uber excited one way or the other yet.
  3. Brandon is still enjoying his job and starts school soon.
  4. We have a couple of options on the horizon and are praying that God will open or close the doors on them quickly.
  5. We're in the middle of Season 4 of Gilmore Girls.
That's about it...we lead dull lives as you can see.

Happy Monday!

Wednesday is "Skinny Girls" Day.

Skinny Girls: a female who wears a size 0-12; some are mean and some are nice;

Dear Skinny Girls (more specifically the mean ones),

I should tell you first that I am NOT a skinny girl. I met my honey and let things go. This is of my own doing and I am currently working on this problem. I also am fortunate enough to have parents who instilled in me a good sense of self worth so I don't struggle with a low self-esteem with the exception of a few frump days here and there.

That being said, I have a serious bone to pick with you.

I really get tired of hearing about how "fat" you supposedly are.

In fact, if I hear it again, I just might scream.

We all have areas we'd like to work on, I'm certain of that. For example I hate my tummy and arms the most. However, blanket statements like "I'm such a fatty" or "I'm so fat" from your mouths are quite frankly, insulting and demeaning.

It's bad enough that society (that includes everyone even yourself) has allowed the skinny girl image to be projected onto our demographic as acceptable which has caused bulemia, anorexia, gluttony and other disorders and problems to go to a whole other level of severity.

Us fat girls don't need your help.

So hear me when I say this:

YOU. ARE. NOT. FAT.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND MADE IN GOD'S IMAGE.

I have theories about why things are like for instance, I think the problem with kids today is no discipline and no dodgeball. That's another story for another day. The point in all of this is that I think in our modern society we sometimes forget that simple theories from the days of yore often work just as good as the current ones, I'd go so far as to say they work the best actually.

So here's my take on mean skinny girls.

If skinny girls weren't so worried about being Snow White, and get busy on being Cinderella's, then life would be a lot better.

You see, skinny girls are like Snow White's in that they like to look at themselves in the mirror on a regular basis. It's all they think about, night and day. And if something is on your mind all the time, then it is bound to come out of your mouth. Thus, the release of the nasty blanket statements mentioned above. The problem is that when you make these statements you've forgotten to look outside the mirror and yourself to see that there are other people in this world who struggle with this issue a LOT. AND when you say those awful things about yourself, you disallow other girls who are bigger than you to struggle with the same thing. If  you're "huge" or "fat", then what are they?

A freaking ginormo monster fatty?

But who wants to say that because those words are scary and borderline cause for concern. So instead some girls who are bigger keep it inside because if the skinny Snow White is fat, then I must be huge.

It feeds the cycle and before you know it, girlfriend has gained another 10-20 pounds because she eats in shame so she doesn't have to deal with her problem.

Am I saying you shouldn't talk about your struggle areas? NO. That is not what I am saying.

I am saying that maybe the skinny girls should be more like Cinderella.

Now Cinderella, she lived a hard life and as a result of her hard life, was aware of her surroundings. This is typically your average fat girl and here's why.

When the skinny girl says, "I'm fat", the fat girl looks around to avoid the subject and also so she doesn't have to look in the mirror to be reminded that she is fat again. In the process of looking around, Cinderella discovers, you know what my life isn't so bad. Yes I'm a little bigger than I want to be, but my life could be worse.

If she is in the right surroundings and gets her bearings and gets herself to the nearest gym, she has a shot of becoming part of the skinny girl group and for being comfortable in her skin.

Most of the time, she does not forget where she came from because she worked hard to get to where she is.

Now before you say I'm sticking up for the fat girls and totally dismissing the nice skinny girls, stop yourself.

I have been near all three situations in my life at some point. We all have.

But the biggest thing issue is that when blanket statements are made, communication is cut off.

And everyone knows that when you talk about things everything gets better.

So let's be kind to one another for gosh sakes!!

Much love,

Sam

Differences and Similarities

A couple asked to see my original color versus my hair color now. I don't have a digital picture of that because it's been that long.

What I do have is a picture of my youngest sister and I side by side with what has been requested.

Difference: My hair is much longer now and in fact is probably her length.

Similarities: We also look a LOT alike don't you think?

Thoughts girls?

Happy Tuesday.

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays even in 2011. You get used to it.

  • I've known I live in the North for quite a while but I had a gut check when I had 4 people tell me they DID NOT know what a frito chili pie was.
  • School is back in session and I already am in need of desperation.
  • I am glad that regular primetime tv is back on.
  • I am seriously contemplating going to my natural color of medium blonde. Thoughts???
  • I get my butt kicked on a regular basis at Lexulous.
  • We're watching Gilmore Girls again.
  • I think U of Michigan fans are being a little too snooty about Les Miles coming to the program. I can't stand him, but the guy is a good coach.
  • I've decided I try to hibernate in the winter when I need to be on the go. This is a serious problem considering I'm in law school.
  • Living in the North has also definitely made me re-think my ways on Southern "snow storms."
  • Prayers are still be answered.
  • Y'all remember all those preggo girls in the bloggy world? Well, the actual Boom in the Baby Boom part is about to happen! I am excited for all of them!
  • I'd really like to go on a trip to get out of this state...Blah.
  • Still in a little bit of a funk, but I'm working through it.
  • My husband snores REALLY loud.
  • Could y'all get back to me on that hair thing? Kthx.
Happy Monday

Wednesday is "Breaky-Poo" day.

Breaky-poo: a phrase generated late at night to describe a blog break

I've decided to take a little chill pill on the blog for a few days.

I've got the January Winter Blues.

It makes me wish I were on a beach or a boat somewhere warm.

I'm still reading and commenting on your blogs.

Can you say the same?

Also side note: I'm considering doing a bowl pick next year. I'm pretty good, but I think it might be fun too.

Happy Wednesday.

Goals for 2011

I know everyone is writing about their goals for 2011.

So am I but Brandon and I decided to work on our goals together.

Here they are.

  1. Continue to work on our relationship with God.
  2. Continue to work on our relationship with each other.
  3. Give our very best effort always.
  4. Work hard in school! (Brandon is going for his MBA y'all!)
  5. Get our finances on track to being in order. (This is a huge one for us!)
  6. TRAVEL.
  7. Be thankful for all we have.
  8. Work on getting fit. (I'm serious about this. See #6 as to why!)
  9. Of course this one doesn't include Brandon but make sure I stay on track to blog regularly.
  10. TRAVEL.
This one is short and sweet, but I still wanted to put them out here so I have something to keep me accountable.

Happy Sunday night y'all!

Happy New Year y'all!

2010 was a huge year for us but it was also another great year to be a Sooner!

Tonight is a big game for the Sooners.

Lots of commentators...and a few tacky Oklahoma State fans...are already talking about how we haven't won our last 5 BCS bowls.

And it's true.

I am not one to shy away from my team's problems.

But I also am not one to walk away without mentioning our triumphs.

My team is the winner of

  • 7 National Championships
  • 5 Heisman trophy winners
  • 152 All-Americans
  • Most Wins since WWII
  • the highest NCAA game winning streak of 47
  • 43 conference titles
  • named the MOST prestigious football program by ESPN
  • The MOST lopsided football rivalry against Oklahoma State, in fact OU has shut out OSU more times than OSU has won,
  • the only team to have 3 players go in the top four picks of the NFL Draft,
  • and the place where Bud, Barry and Bob are names everyone knows.

It has been said that...

We play in the house that Bud built.

We are the original powerhouse of football.

We are the home of Sooner Magic.

Champions are born in the Cathedral of College Football.

We are the home of champions and the school of football.

It is where Bob continues to roll.

We play like Sammy B, All Day Long, Hello and Goodbye, Silver Shoes and Superman every time we walk onto the field.

There is no experience like Oklahoma football and no one can touch us.

Many have tried, but there is nothing that comes close because...

There's only ONE Oklahoma!

Boomer Sooner and Happy New Year y'all!

Hi y'all! The name's Samantha. You can call me Sam if you like. I am a lover to a boy I met at Falls Creek in the summer of 2005, that is a student of Jesus, a Sooner born and Sooner bred and when I die I'll be Sooner dead, Democrat by party, blonde to the core, and oldies but goodies kind of girl.
