On shopping with The Twitter and Insta.

It's no secret that I love the camaraderie that happens on The Twitter and Insta. I've waxed poetic on several occasions about how fun it is and I still stand by it.

My latest case in point:  Taking The Twitter and Insta' both shopping with me.

I'm coming to a time where I'm going to have to start dressing like an adult. My days of flip flops and sundresses during the weekdays are sadly coming to an end. I also have lost a lot of weight, so wearing clothes and trying on clothes are fun again! But the thing is, I'm kinda at a loss for what goes good with my body type.

Also, my best gal pals, Jessi (sister) and Jessika (adopted sister) don't live here.

(I still text them telling them I'm going and to be on the lookout.)

So I do the next best thing: post it to The Twitter and Insta and ask for help/ guidance/advice/a flashing red sign that says "WHY DID YOU TRY THAT HOT MESS ON!?"

Both are huge resources that should be taken seriously.

(My husband just rolled his eyes at this sentence.)

(My daddy probably rolled his eyes too.)

(To be honest, my daddy probably rolled his eyes from the get-go because this whole blog post is about shopping.)

Where was I? Oh yeah a first world problem blog post!

Think about it: There are some seriously awesome fashion bloggers we all read. Now I don't follow the snooty ones, but I love the fun ones that don't take themselves super seriously. And also, there are a lot of bloggers who aren't fashion bloggers, but just have a good eye.

I want to look professional, classic, like Jackie Kennedy, and yet fun at the same time.

(And yes, I really just said I wanted to look like Jackie Kennedy in the courtroom. There is no one more timeless in my opinion.)

With a click of my iPhone, the pictures are out there and the magic happens: I get help in the style department.

(My husband also might grumble about the shopping process taking longer because I post the pictures. But Brandon should know by now how long shopping takes in the first place. Just sayin'.)

It is so much fun and I have the best time and I come away with some awesome looks. 

Last Saturday I found these wonderful gems at JC Penney's! I was stunned at all I found!


Hello Easter dress and with a jacket, it's court room appropriate on a casual day!

I'm so excited I can wear Peplum!

And the grey pants and the white coat are just staples that everyone needs!

Of course I made a stop at my favorite shopping place in the world: Old Navy.

If they made business clothes, I probably wouldn't shop anywhere else.

The shirt, tank-top,  jeans (Rockstar Skinny) and shoes are all Old Navy.
And then I proceeded to get grease popped all over my shirt and now have to hand-wash it to get the stains out.

Oh well, at least I have people to help me get dressed.

Hodge podging it: a fun way to say a bunch of random crap.

The Oscars: 

I thought there were so many pretty dresses and looks on Sunday night at the Oscars. But the three that nailed it in my opinion were:

1.  Naomi Watts - She was classic and yet was very fresh and with the times.

2. Charlize Theron - I LOVE her hair. I always thing going short is bold and she pulled the look off flawlessly and looked so comfortable in her skin.

3. Jessica Chastain - She looks stunning in the "Old Hollywood" look. And that night she also rocked a serious red lip.

Best Couple of the Night - Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.

I loved his speech because he talked about marriage being work. It was so right on and I know he took a lot of flack for it, but I wholeheartedly agree with it and glad someone in Hollywood finally said it.

Also, he's hot and she's really pretty.

On Encouragement 

I want to take a quick moment to say if you’re losing weight and you see others doing the same, take the time to encourage that person. A kind word goes a long way. And weight loss is really hard. So it makes sense that we all stick together while doing it!

Whole Foods 

I may or may not have a slight obsession with this store. I know my daddy would probably tell me that it was the land of the yuppies and that I’ve officially crossed over because I like this store so well.

But I just can’t help myself!

The downside is that it is SUPER expensive. I think there are lots of reasons why people don’t buy organic but the biggest one is that people can’t afford it. I understand that if it is necessary that sacrifices will and should be made. However, the cost of things was absurd. There has to be some middle ground somewhere. People shouldn’t have to give up doing fun things so they can eat. (How is that for a first world problem?)

Winter

I’m over it. Seriously. The snow isn’t fun to me anymore. It just is a pain in the butt that I have to wait to be cleaned off to go run. And I’m tired of wearing boots not because I want to but because I have to.

(Edited to Add: It is a flipping blizzard here right now.)

Race Season

I am really looking forward to my first full race season!  I'm currently registered for two races and I'm registering for a third one soon! The running community is just a bunch of fun people. Everyone is super encouraging, friendly, and helpful. It's beginning to be one of my favorite communities I'm a part of.

This Week's Loss: 0 pounds

Total Loss: 66.2 pounds

Starting Weight: 239 pounds

Current Weight: 172.8 pounds

Pounds to goal weight: 22.8 pounds

What I craved this week: Mac and cheese. And I had some from Whole Foods on Sunday. It was delightful.

What I noticed was different about my body: My body is starting to tone and my running times are getting shorter and shorter. But I've still got a ways to go. I usually try to post something positive, but this week I want to post something that is technically negative. I have stretchmarks and yes, I can put the lotion on my skin to help alleviate some of the problem, but for the most part, the damage is done. I wish that I had taken care of my body in the first place.

Workouts I did this week: Two runs and two lift days.

Personal Goal for this week:
  • Run three days. Lift three days. Rest one day. 
  • To keep myself in check, I've written "Whatever you do, do for Jesus" in my planner and I'm also texting my sister for some accountability this week.

Favorite Quote for this week:  "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." -1 Corinthians 10:31

What I’m looking forward to:
  • We have some fun trips ahead of us and I'm really looking forward to all three of them. All three trips include some serious sunshine and some good times!
  • I hit a new PR this weekend for my 10k time and I registered for my my second half-marathon. I'm really looking forward to race season and training. I can't wait to compare from last fall to this spring to see how far I've come.
Frame of Mind: I'm glad I didn't gain this week, but I'm frustrated that I didn't lose because I want to stay on track. I have put into place serious accountability again.

Why Jessica Chastain should win the Oscar.

If you follow me on The Twitter or Insta, you know that my husband and I have been seeing the films nominated for Oscars this year. This year in my opinion is a good year for film because there is so much depth and diversity among the films nominated. Also, the reason why I say this year has been a good year, is because I learned and took away something from each movie every time.

But the two films that have stuck with me the most are Argo and Zero Dark Thirty.

Argo is phenomenal and is hands down the best movie I've seen in years. It is everything that is good about the movies. I truly think it will be one of those films we talk about for years and years to come. Also, it is an absolute travesty that Ben Affleck was not nominated for Best Director. It's considered a footnote to the bigger Iranian Hostage Crisis, and when you see this film, it makes you appreciate what an incredible and important time in history this was. It also helps you understand some of the relationships between countries today.

Long story short: GO SEE IT!!

But we're here to talk about why Jessica Chastain should win.

I want to give you a little back story about my experience seeing this film.

A few days before my husband and I went to see Zero Dark Thirty, my baby sister tweeted that she had seen the movie. It surprised me for a few reasons:
  1. Loren is a sixteen year old. 
  2. She also has never expressed any interest whatsoever in politics or history to me.
  3. She was 5 when 9/11 happened. 
  4. Her favorite movies are chick flicks, musicals, and Disney movies.
So on the night we went, I tweeted that we were going and she sent me a text saying she couldn't wait to hear what I thought about it.

Now I feel obliged to say at this point that this is a bit of a spoiler post, so if you haven't seen the film, scroll through this part. Although really, I dont' think I'm ruining a whole lot of the story. However, it is necessary because it goes to my argument.

In short, Zero Dark Thirty is about how the CIA found Osama bin Laden and killed him. Jessica Chastain's character portrays the female CIA agent who lead this successful campaign.

At the beginning of the film it is pitch black and you hear to 911 conversations that were taped from people who were stuck in the World Trade Center towers. I was 17 when 9/11 happened and so for me, 9/11 is a very real day. There are times when the grass smells a certain way and I can see the football field that I was standing on the day 9/11 happened. Those few moments were very emotional for me and I definitely did the ugly cry.

The film goes on to show how the most famous manhunt of this century came together. It blew my mind about how things fell together and the lead they went on and what it took for things to finally happen. 

But that's not why Jessica Chastain should win the Oscar for Best Actress.

Don't get me wrong, Jessica Chastain is a bad-ass in the film, but this film is about something more.

I walked away from this film so proud to be a woman.

I hope that doesn't draw eye-rolls when I write that but seriously, I was proud to be a woman. In the 60s and 70s when feminism was on the rise, what I see as an outsider was that women felt like they had to act like men in order to be considered equals. Then in the 80s and 90s, it seemed like there was this internal battle to be everything and everywhere.

Now it seems like it is finally okay for women to be who they are. It doesn't matter whether that's a hair dresser, a stay at home mom, a rocket scientist, a doctor, a teacher, a work at home mom, an entrepreneur, a lawyer or a CIA agent. They are respected for just being the best version of a person who happens to be a woman. They can be feminine and strong and graceful and bold. They can be smart and brave and forceful and wise. 

I know there are still battles to be fought and glass ceilings to be pushed, but this film left me wishing that I had wanted to be a CIA agent when I was little. Lawyer, big whoop! ;)

My feelings above were only confirmed more once I talked to Loren (we call her LB).

After the movie, I tweeted about how much I loved the film. And within a few moments, LB sent me a text asking what I thought about the film. But before I answered, I told her that I wanted to know what she thought about it first thinking about all the things I listed above.

She proceeded to blow up my phone with texts. She went on and on about how she finally understood how big of a deal 9/11 was. She said she cried when the first few minutes of the film happened. She had lots of questions about torture methods. She wanted to know my book recommendations on the Kennedy family and told me that just because she didn't want to be a lawyer like me didn't mean that she wasn't interested in politics. I told her that no matter who you are, it's important to be informed about the world around you. I talked about how all the women in our family are among the most politically informed and that hardly any of us have the same job.

It was just a good sister to sister and friend to friend conversation. It might be my favorite conversation of ours to date. I absolutely loved it that much.  It was so cool to watch her mind and body and soul open up to the realm of possibilities around her.

I loved that she was inspired and that even if she doesn't know what she wants to be when she grows up, she knows that becoming the CIA agent to take down the worst terrorist in this century is a possibility for her.

That's why Jessica Chastain should win the Oscar for Best Actress.

Because she represents a woman who stuck to her guns and remained true to who she was no matter the cost. And she brought to life the story of a woman who will inspire the girls of tomorrow like my sister.

To answer your question, yes I've seen Silver Linings Playbook. It was good, but I was more struck by Bradley Cooper's performance than hers in the film. I realize that her role is equally important because it brings to life the story of so many people and families who struggle in silent with mental health issues. But to me, the climate of this country is that we're down right now. We need some inspiration.

I also don't see Jennifer Lawrence making it for the long haul. Jessica Chastain has Meryl potential. JLaw doesn't in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the Academy will probably go with the provocative rather than the inspirational.

I just wanted to put out in words why Jessica Chastain is the better choice. Too bad I don't have a vote.

Legit Happies

This post is dedicated to all the things, places, and people that make me happy currently.

  • Group Text Conversations- God bless the person who created this iPhone wonder because I have two very awesome group conversations that make my day every day. We talk about everything from working out to cheeseburgers to boob size to running races to root beer to homework to OOTDs and back. SHOUT OUT to Jessi, Jessika, Molly, and Katie. You girls make me smile big time.
  • Taking time off from Social Media- For those of you that I recruited to The Twitter, I'm sure your jaw is on the floor reading that heading. But I had my first day off from it all-Facebook, Insta', and The Twitter- this past Monday. I gotta tell you that I LOVED it. I was extremely productive with my day and I didn't feel like I had a constant noise running in my head of who said what or wore what, etc. All of that extra stuff not rattling around in my brain was good for me. I've got big plans for next Monday. 
  • Mumford and Sons - I downloaded their debut album the night of the Grammy's and so far I'm loving it. 
  • Unsweet Iced Tea with Extra Ice from Mickey D's - I get one about 5-6 times a week. I can hear the staff smile when I say the extra ice part. I can't help it. The ice melts with the tea and also they don't put enough ice in drinks up here for my taste. 
  • Going to see the Oscar films with B - This year we decided to see all the Oscar films before the actual Oscars. It was such a blast and I can't wait for this Sunday!I especially loved hearing B's responses/reactions to the movies.

 A few days ago I was blissfully living in Mrs. Have-My-Life-Planned-Out-Ville. I could see what our life was like in just a few short months and this had gone from hues and colors to now sharpening edges. I could see faces and activities. I even had planned to start some traditions for us so we wouldn't forget what we've left behind.

I'm just so sure that the entire time I made plans or wrote a future date down that God was just laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaughing at me.

Without going into detail, we've been thrown a major curve ball from the Big Guy upstairs. 

Now that image is blurry. Nothing is set in stone. We're in the very early stages of this possibility. And I'm a resident of The-Great-Unknown-Scares-the-Crap-Outta-Me Town. And even if I get to go back to my white-picket fence image, I still can't let myself think it as a possibility for now because if it turns out that it isn't a possibility, I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

We've been here before. We dealt with many unknowns before we moved to Michigan. And now we're here again. Of course, it's completely out of left field and the details are falling into place so easily that it has to be God. 

And if it happens, it'll be great. We will be great. It is a total adventure that I never even considered when I wrote out my resolutions earlier this year.

BUT. (This might be the biggest one of my life.)

There is also a part of this that will be really hard. This hard part is what I was most clear on in that image.  And it's what I'd have to give up if this adventure comes to fruition.

And yes, I'll put on my big girl panties and deal...eventually. 

My family has been doing nothing but telling me to put on my big girl panties. 

And the hard part might not even be that hard if some things work out a certain way. 

But for days, the thought of the hard part has me in tears in less than two hot seconds. 

So for now, please pray for guidance for Brandon and I. I can't say anything more than that, but I do promise to update you as soon as I have a clear and crystal image.

What I craved this week: Something sweet. I don't know why, but I did. Brandon had to reign me in at times.

What I noticed was different about my body: I need new jeans. Like yesterday. Brandon commented on it. Therefore, it's obviously a huge issue and must be rectified as soon as I have time to shop.

Workouts I did this week: Hit two runs and two arm workouts! I consider this a good thing because I had a major assignment due this week.

Personal Goal for this week: 
  • Hit my workouts.
  • Get some homework done.
  • Work hard to make good food choices.
Favorite Quote for this week: "The only way to finish is to start." -Nike shirt I saw this week.

What I’m looking forward to:
  • I have a huge assignment due today. So I will be extremely happy at 6pm. Of course, I have another big project for next week, but I can get a little bit of relief for a day.

  • Tax moolah! We've got places to go! 
  • A manicure
Frame of Mind: I really had to make a conscience effort to make good food choices this week. It was a holiday week and I just wanted to throw things out the door. It also was an emotionally challenging week. We have been thrown a curve ball and have lots to think about and I just wanted to eat all the things. Making a conscience effort to eat well and make good choices is still a battle I face. I was reminded of that. It's still an area I need to work on.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd I have been sitting around the weight I am now and I'm sick of it. I'm ready to move on.

Lent for my body, my soul, and my mind.


This Lent season, I'm doing things FOR my body, soul, and mind that will cause me to look inward and be more focused on Christ and what He has for my life.

For my body...

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;" - 1 Corinthians 6:19

I want to take care of my body. These 40 days I want to commit to hitting all my runs and my arm workouts. I know this might seem superficial to some, but committing to taking care of my body is not just for now, but for the long run. I want to be healthy for myself, for my  husband, and for our family as a whole.

So for six days a week I'm committing to run three times a week and do an easy at home arm workout three days a week.

This is a quick arm workout that my running coach gave me. I can do it in my pjs!

  1. WARM UP: 5-10 minutes of light activity to get body temperature up and muscles ready to work! 
  2. CHEST: Push-Ups 10-15 (I do weenie ones right now!) 
  3. BACK: LATS- Rows Bent over 12-20 repetitions
  4. ARMS: Bicep Curls 12-20 repetitions
  5. ARMS: Triceps Kickback Bent Over 12-20 repetitions
  6. SHOULDERS: Press 12-20 repetitions
  7. Repeat 2-6.
  8. STRETCH areas that have been worked. 
I did this workout last night and I was sore! 

For my soul...

I want to work on scripture memory during this time. I don't do this enough and I am hoping that this time will establish some GOOD habits that will help me make Godly decisions in the future.

For my mind...

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." -Psalm 46:10

I need a day of rest from the world. So on Mondays, I'm stepping away from social media. It will be my time to shut off and be quiet. I am sure I will still have homework to do on those days, but I need time for my mind to just be quiet.

When I'm in the moment and quiet, that is when I learn and grow the most. Not just for my education in the traditional sense, but also for my spiritual education.

What I craved this week: Chips and Queso and Guac with Margaritas on a patio with the sun shining down on me. It won't be the same without the sun. COME ON SPRING!! WHERE ARE YOU??

What I noticed was different about my body: I am starting to convert to the Organic Foods train because I feel better when I don't eat processed crap. I know this is a no-brainer, but I resisted for a long while on this boat. Now am I full on hardcore organic? Nope. I still believe moderation is key. But I will say that I feel better when I eat better.

Workouts I did this week: Two runs: 3.5 miles and 6 miles. I am determined to hit the two on my own this week.

Personal Goal for this week: Lose two pounds this coming week. My high school reunion is less than 18 weeks away and I would be lying if I said I didn't want to be at my goal weight before then. So I have got to buckle down like yesterday.

Favorite Quote for this week: "You don't need other people to validate you, you're already valuable." (Well this is ironic considering the last section I just wrote. Whoops.)

What I'm looking forward to: WARM WEATHER. For realz. The weekend of March 10th, winter is on notice as far as I'm concerned. If I'm being honest, it's been on notice since last month, but I live in flipping Michigan. So it's not as easy as that.

Frame of Mind: This is a big week for me school wise. So if I've not around a whole lot this week, that's why.

Monday Mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • Yesterday I missed my daddy terribly. So I downloaded some of The Doors music for my running mix. This solved the problem quickly. 
  • Speaking of, I need him to make me a strictly oldies running mix. 
  • I don't know how famous bloggers do it. It just seems like a lot of work to constantly post. Also, they have to deal with the crazy and the rude people. 
  • I downloaded some Mumford and Sons yesterday. We shall see if they live up to the hype. 
  • I want one of those iHome things for my bathroom. I like a bit of soft music in the morning.
  • We got a new bed in a bag this weekend. It is grey and I bought orange sheets. It's really cute. We also rearranged our living room. We both were craving some change. I also have been brainstorming in the way of re-decorating. I want a colorful house with a somewhat hippy-chic feel, but not to the point of hipster. I still really like historical pieces too. I don't even know if that makes sense. I tried to make a quick vision board to try to explain it to my husband this weekend and all I got was the deer in headlights look in return. So if you don't follow the above, fear not, you're in good company.
  • One of the diamonds in a ring that Brandon gave me for my birthday fell out and it makes me so sad. It's this little bitty thing, but still. 
  • The "Diana" bio-pic with Naomi Watts is set to release October 4, 2013. 
  • Yes, the date is already in my calendar. 
  • Read Big Mama's book on Friday. LOVED it and I'm recommending it to women period.

On getting fitted for running shoes...


BIG HUGE DISCLAIMER: I am NOT an expert!! This is my experience.

First, here are my personal rules for getting fitted.
  1. The biggest thing that I can tell you up front about getting fitted for shoes is, be honest with yourself about the way the shoes make you feel. 
  2. Go to a running store. The people that work there are (usually) experienced runners. And runners are kinda like skiers in that we love to talk about running with each other. However, we're not as spacy as hard core skiers. 
  3. Listen to their recommendations. 
  4. Try out the shoes for a bit. If you don't like it, don't be afraid to take them back.

That being said, here's my experience.

I love running. Really I do. So when I get around anything to do with running, I lose my mind. Brandon was seriously embarrassed on Saturday because I was basically the little kid in the store that wanted to touch and try out everything.

For real, we walked in the store, I told them Brandon had been fitted around Christmas time. However, I wanted to confirm what the store had told us was correct. I liked my experience at my store ten times better and so I wanted to make sure Brandon had the same experience.

And then I was like a bee buzzing around the store in excitement. I found some gloves on sale, because Hello! It's freezing cold here in Michigan and winter won't be over until April.

They had phone covers that said "13.1," "Run," and "Runner Girl."

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd they had a 13.1 sticker that was in tie-dye!!

Thankfully, I resisted. How? I don't know.

Oh wait, yes I do know. Brandon had shoe options and he wanted me to help him "ask the right questions."

So Brandon is testing out shoes and I'm sitting on my hands trying not to get up to look at shoes. I could see a brand new pair of my shoes and I was trying really hard not to do anything about it. I told our sales rep, I'm about 50 miles away from needing new shoes. (And I am!) The other guys there were like let's look at your shoe so you don't have to get the same color. I look at the color options and silently talk myself out of getting fitted.

We get to talking about the upcoming race season. I am still trying to talk myself out of getting fitted. Then they ask what races I've done and I mention I've lost weight running.

Meanwhile, Brandon is getting close to figuring out his shoes and suddenly the levy broke.

I couldn't help myself anymore.

I said, "Since I've lost weight, I kinda am curious if the recommendation would be different."

The sales guy said, "Well let's check things out. It is a definite possibility."

At my store, the first thing you do is walk in front of the sale rep. They're watching to see what your feet do when you walk. After that, this store has a machine that you stand on to see where you put the majority of your weight while you stand. It confirms your pronation or lack thereof in some cases.

Then they measure the size of your feet old school. They not only check the length, but the width of your feet.

This part is important. Last fall I found out that I've been in a size 8 all my life when I should have been wearing a size 9. The sales rep told me that some people get offended when they go up a size, but that with running it's important to give your feet room to move around.

Then based on your walking test, the fancy schmancy machine and your shoe size, they bring you options.

This is where it gets fun and interesting. This is also where you're supposed to speak your mind.

I love running a lot. I want to be the best runner possible. For me, that includes my shoes being bright, happy, and pretty.

So when a sale rep hands me a shoe that is colorless, I have no problem saying I don't like them for that very reason.

But back to the process.

So they tell you why you've been brought the options they did. I fall into the stabilizer category because my feet tend to roll a bit when I walk.

They have you try on two different shoes at the same time to see which one you prefer over the other.  It could be a possibility that you don't like both. But it's kinda like at the eye doctor when they ask if the first option is better or if you can see better with number two.

The first shoe I tried on was a cool mint green color, but the cushion on the heel was bulky. I don't like bulky. I have enough weight to tote around when I run, I don't need extra shoe to worry about too.

The second shoe I tried on was less chunky, but white. I mean it was pretty much white with a few orange and pink stripes here and there. I don't wash my shoes until after I'm done with the mileage. It's a thing. But more importantly, I felt like my feet moved around too easily. Remember when I talked about having your width measured? I'm a B, a very skinny B. So when I try on a shoe, I want it to fit like a glove. I don't want to have to tie my shoes tight either to get the shoe to fit either.

The next shoe I switched out for was a really common and popular shoe, but I didn't love it. 

I then figured out the tongue on the all white shoe was hung up and re-tied the shoes. It was much better but I still hated the fact that it was all white. The only other option they had were a black and white pair.

While I was waiting for more options, I noticed that there happened to be a pair of Mizunos in the section he was pulling from and it was also VERY pretty. Not exactly neon, but the colors were still very bright. There was pink on them and I had a gut feeling about them.

I asked the guy if they had my size and also if they were for sure a shoe that would work for me. I didn't want him to tell me yes just because I liked the color. He said they did. He checked and they had my size!

And they were comfortable. Felt like I was walking on a cloud. And sooooooooo pretty!

I'm falling in love with them all over again now as I talk about them. The guy then had me put on the same shoes on both feet to see if it wasn't a fluke.

In my mind I could picture the clouds parting and the sun shining blissfully and it was a nice 72 degrees.

In other words, Mizuno Inspire 9s were my shoe!

I kept walking around the store and Brandon was like, "Will you change out of those shoes so I can buy them already?"

YES PLEASE!!

Working on: Not counting down the days until winter is over. I don't want to wish my life away and I know I will miss it when we move back to Oklahoma, but I'm struggling with this. Also having good productive days despite the weather. These two are linked for me.

I need to run a race. I've got the itch, the fever, if you will. One of my favorite things about running is actually running a race. It's one of the reasons why I hit the road 3-4 times a week.

Running any type of race takes preparation.  So when I'm out there running and I am kinda over it, I remind myself that this run counts for race day.

Well I haven't had a race to run in over a month and I can tell. I've got a 5K coming up in March and another half in June. I'm running a 10K somewhere in there as well.

BUT...I wanna run more than that.  

Because you know...I've got the fever.

Healthy Train Tuesday

This Week's Loss: I woke up late this morning and didn't have time to weigh in and I won't get home until late tonight.

Total Loss: So as of now, I'm saying that I'm down 63.4 pounds, because I'll skip my weigh-in this week.

Starting Weight: 239 pounds

Current Weight: 175.6 pounds

Pounds to goal weight: 25.6 pounds

What I craved this week: Since I knew I was going to have barbeque on Saturday night, I was craving it all week long. Eating that meal was very satisfactory that night, but the next night and Monday morning...not so much.

What I noticed was different about my body: I went to Old Navy on Friday and tried on some of their spring stuff. I can wear a medium easily. BUT. When I can't wear a medium it's because my arms are too big. I spoke with my running coach and I've got a workout plan. It's time to get my arms toned. My flabby chicken wing arms shouldn't hold me back from buying a dress or a shirt anymore.

Workouts I did this week: None. I went to my running group on Sunday. They do an annual Winter Olympics event and then usually run afterwards. However, because it was below 10 degrees some of the women complained it was too cold to run. I've run in those conditions before and was slightly irritated we didn't go. I didn't go ultimately because we last minute thought we were going to host a Super Bowl party. I didn't go for my runs by myself this week because it poured on one day and then the other day I thought Brandon was going to be home from work early so I passed. But truthfully, I have become so reliant on having someone to run with that it becomes easy for me to skip out when I'm by myself. In a few months I won't have anyone to run with and I need to get used to going by myself again. I want to be one of those girls that will go no matter what. And so I'm working through that mentally right now. I did it all last year when I started out, but now that I've had someone to go with, I've kinda eased off pushing myself individually. And I loathe, despise and hate the treadmill. Like I said, yesterday, I've got to get over myself.

Personal Goal for this week: Hit all my runs whether I go on the treadmill or they are outside.

What I'm looking forward to:
  • I've planned to have Chipotle this week as part of our meal planning. If I do it right, I'll only go over a few points that day!

Frame of Mind: When I have a lot to do, I function ten times better at being on top of the weight loss front because everything is scheduled. Starting this week, I'm basically at that point until the semester is over.

Monday Mumblings..

I mumble sometimes on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • We saw Django Unchained on Friday night. It was long and yet we both really liked it. We still have Argo and Silver Linings Playbook to go. 
  • It has snowed for the past 5 days. 
  • I ordered a Moving Comfort bra on Friday. It has yet to ship. I don't do well with things not being shipped out immediately. 
  • We went out to celebrate my great grades and Brandon's raise on Saturday night. I had a drink called Porch Swing Hooch. It was wonderful. It looked like lemonade and now I'm questioning all old ladies who sit on porch swings with a big jug of lemonade. Do they have hooch in it?
  • Yesterday was bad news bears on the food department as well. I'm dreading the scale tomorrow. I will say that something I ate Saturday night didn't agree with me because I spent quality time in the bathroom last night and this morning. I also was nauseous that's how bad it was. I even had to take some Zantac for the AWFUL acid reflux I had going  on that I hadn't had in forever. 
  • I got new shoes this weekend. This will have its own post later in the week. I think I'm going to talk about what it's like to be fitted. This seems to be intimidating to some and I want to break it down to maybe take the pressure off a bit. Look for that either Thursday or Wednesday. 
  • I need to get over my hate of the treadmill until the winter is over at least. I'm gonna have to hit it up at least once a week. 
  • I would love to try a Zumba class or a yoga class. I don't have anyone to go with me. And sometimes I am shy on this stuff. 
  • Since the Super Bowl is over, and everyone has a fresh start I can officially announce that Brandon and I are now Detroit Lions fans. Being from Oklahoma can make for random fan choices sometimes. So we decided that since we've lived here, we're going to claim the Lions for us and for our kiddos some day. Our kids will say, "I'm a Lions fan because my momma and daddy lived in Michigan for awhile." Pretty cool thought huh?
  • A couple of weeks ago I recommended the Gettin' Jiggy wit It Pandora station. I still stand by that recommendation. 
  • Big Mama's book comes out on Friday! I am really excited for this. I've scheduled time to read all day for it. 
  • Brandon also got running shoes. I can't wait for him to start his own running journey. I've been working on him for months now!

Only serious dudes need apply.

I've written this post two other times for my sister. Both times I went on and on about what is great about my sister. And I still stand by both of those posts. I'm not linking to them because that would be too easy. If you're a dude and you're reading this and you want to know, you'll find them. It shows that you've got a little bit of initiative. 

Plain and simple, my sister Jessi (Jessica) is a rockstar. She's a hard worker. She cares about our family very deeply. She's the second of four kids and is 25 years old. She has busted her butt this past year to lose over 80 pounds and is not done rocking her weight loss journey. She is loyal to a fault. She loves her Boxer Bulldogs, Peaches and Winston. She's a runner. And oh yeah, she's has a college degree from the University of Oklahoma. She loves to travel and is ALWAYS up for a road trip.
